14/09/25 ALCGA JUNIOR COACHING AT PORTLETHEN SESSION 3

The 4 girls who attended the final coaching session of the year were treated to a brilliant

session on all aspects of their game with top class individualised coaching from David.

The girls started indoors in the putting lab, then progressed outside to the driving range and

pitching area, making full use of the excellent practice facilities at Portlethen.

They will surely be inspired to keep practising through the winter and be ready for even

more success next season.

Most sincere thanks from ALCGA to Head Professional at Portlethen, David Pocock, for all of

his fantastic sessions which are not only full of great technical advice but are also great fun!

Sheena Wood Rosebowl Final 2025 - Murcar Links Golf Club

The final of the Sheena Wood Rosebowl this year was played at Murcar Links Golf Club between Kirsty Craig (Portlethen) and Susie Macleod (Aberdeen Ladies).

Great golf was played by the two finalists in blustery conditions. Kirsty was one over par and 3 up after nine holes. Susie fought back to one down, however Kirsty clinched the match with a birdie 2 at the 16th to win the final 3&2.

A very sporting final and many congratulations to Kirsty on winning the Rosebowl for the second year in a row.

Thank you to Murcar Links Golf Club for giving us courtesy of their lovely course for the match.

Tri-Am Results 12 September 2025 Craibstone Golf Club

Tri-Am Craibstone Golf Club 12 September 2025

Our final event, the County Tri-Am at Craibstone  Golf Club was a great success with 108 ladies, 36 teams taking part. The course was in magnificent condition and all the ladies thoroughly enjoyed the strategic challenges it presented.

In first place, with a runaway score of 92 points were the Murcar Links Team of Shirley Copland, Liz Garden and Jill Ramage. Each player contributed many points but this fantastic score was definitely helped by Jill’s impressive back nine of 39 strokes giving her 27 points alone. Many congratulations from the county to the winning team.

In second place, with a commendable score of 86 points, came another Murcar Links team, Michelle Black, Joanne Davidison and Vicki Neish.

In third place, with 85 points, came the team of Lynn Kelly, Lyn Park and Lorna Whyte from Meldrum House Golf Club.

In fourth place also on 84 points, on a countback came Anne Christiansen,  Gladys Main and Sheila McNaught, from Newmachar Golf Club.

Congratulations to all the prize winners.

Thank you to the ALCGA management team.

A huge thank you to the staff at Craibstone Golf Club, particularly Tomasz for being so helpful and letting us hold our Tri-Am at this wonderful venue.

ALCGA Junior Scramble Deeside Golf Club 17 August 2025

Winning Team Hannah, Joy, Fiona

The inaugural Junior Girls Scramble took place in glorious sunshine at Deeside Golf Club on Sunday 17th August 2025.

Three well matched teams took part, each led by an experienced ALCGA county lady. The aim was for everyone to enjoy playing as part of a team & to pick up tips on course management, etiquette & rules. It was a great opportunity for some of the girls, as yet to achieve a handicap to meet up with others & play good golf.

Each team played round the 9 hole, Par 34, Blairs course twice and they scored under par every time. It was lovely to see everyone play together with such enthusiasm and each team member made their contribution, sometimes under pressure!

Winners: Total 61 (30,31)

Fiona Campbell (McDonald Ellon), Joy Lovie (Ballater) Hannah Denholm (Newmachar)

2nd Place: Total 65 (32,33)

Carol Eddie (Deeside), Holly Lovie (Ballater), Lucy Morrison (Inverurie)

3rd Place: Total 66 (34,32)

Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies), Lois Reid (Cruden Bay), Demi Morrison (Inverurie)

Well done to all the players, we hope the taste of subpar golf will inspire you to great things.

Our sincere thanks go to Deeside Golf Club who most kindly gave us courtesy of their lovely course and let us use their first class facilities.

Lyon Double Foursomes Cancelled

ALCGA committee have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Lyon Double Foursomes at Aboyne.

Unfortunately with an amber weather warning in place and Police Scotland advising the public to avoid unnecessary travel, we had no choice.

This is particularly disappointing as the Lyon Double Foursomes is always such an enjoyable team event and everyone was looking forward to playing at Aboyne.

The Committee did look at options of how to reorganise/reschedule the event, but it proved to be unfeasible.

Our thanks go to Aboyne Golf Club and in particular their Professional Mike who have been so accommodating in every way.

Sadly Storm Floris will be the winner this year!

Could all clubs who have entered please email our Honorary Treasurer Laura McLardy with their bank details as they will be due a refund of their entry fee.

Success for Aberdeenshire at the North of Scotland Championship Kinross Golf Club 2025

Lily and Lorna

Congratulations to Lily Macdonald, one of our talented juniors from Aboyne who had a great run in the North of Scotland Scratch Championship. In the final Lily was narrowly beaten 2 & 1 by Katy Alexander from Blairgowrie, who plays off a handicap of +2.5. On the way she beat leading qualifier Lucy Moran, a scratch player from Milnathort.

Congratulations also go to ALCGA Past Captain Lorna Johnston, from Meldrum House on becoming North of Scotland Handicap Champion beating Lisbeth Husband from Carnoustie by 2 holes. Lorna surely has nerves of steel as all her matches were close, including a 2 hole victory over Anne Munro from Kemnay.

In the Girls’  Championship, well done to Holly Mckenzie, from Murcar Links who won The  Handicap Trophy with a 77 (2) nett 75.

Great results for Aberdeenshire County and well done to all who took part.

Thanks go to Perth and Kinross County Ladies for running a successful tournament.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Mary Burgess (Aboyne) on June 12th 2025.

Mary was a great county stalwart and past County Selector. She had also been Captain of the Scottish Senior Women’s Golf Association Northern Division (Vets) and always took a keen interest in everyone’s golf.

Mary  was a most gracious lady, modest, had a great sense of humour and was popular with everyone. She will be greatly missed by us all and remembered with great affection.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to all her family.
