COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

For the first time in three years, it has been lovely to have a “normal” County Championship without the need for any restrictions. It was great to see the appearance of spectators on the course and the re-emergence of caddies.

Firstly, I must thank Fraserburgh Golf Club for so generously granting us use of their course for the three days of our Championship. The County is indeed fortunate to benefit from such support. The course was in terrific condition and offered a suitable challenge for the Championship. We were made most welcome in the clubhouse and were well looked after by all the staff. They even managed to organise good weather for us and I was most impressed (and relieved) to find that they had managed to direct the worst of the surrounding fog away from the course on our final day. Thank you Fraserburgh Golf Club!

I would also like to thank everyone who entered the Championship and offer my congratulations to everyone who won through to the match play stages of both the scratch and handicap competitions.

The semi-finals of the handicap competition were contested by myself (Murcar Links) v June Cowie (Cruden Bay) and Lindsey McNiven (Aberdeen Ladies) v Avril Willox (Murcar Links). In a closely matched final between myself and Lindsey I managed to win 3&1.

Rachel Polson (Murcar Links) v Lynne Tough (Kemnay) and Sheena Wood (Aberdeen Ladies) v Lauren Whyte (Aberdeen Ladies) contested the Championship semi-finals. The final was between Rachel and Sheena with Rachel winning 4&3 to become our Champion and retaining her title form last year. Many congratulations Rachel.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY WINNERS 2022 are:

County Champion and winner of the Mrs FK Smith Cup – Rachel Polson

Scratch Runner-up and winner of the EM Craddock Trophy – Sheena Wood

Losing scratch semi-finalists and winners of the Miss C Lyon Trophies – Lynne Tough and Lauren Whyte

Leading scratch qualifier and winner of the Members Cup – Rachel Polson

Handicap Champion and winner of the Fiona Hay Salver – Olive Robb

Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Olive Robb
